Exeter Parliamentary Candidate Graham Oakes is opposing moves by the Peninsula Primary Care Trusts (PCT's) to transfer Upper GI surgery to Plymouth.
Graham commented: " This move would add increased stress and journey times to patients and their relatives. It could also deprive significant numbers of patients from the option of Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomy, currently Exeter is the only centre in the UK to offer this".
The County Council's Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee has asked the PCT's to clarify their proposals and this issue is now likely to go out to public consultation.
