Lib Dems beat UKIP

Two local Lib Dem P.P.C.s, Graham Oakes (Exeter) and Sally Morgan (Devon Central) defeated a UKIP MEP Roger Knapman and Prof. Andrew Tettenborn, a leading UKIP member in a debate on Friday night.
Exeter University Debating Society debated "This house believes the European dream has turned into a nightmare" and the vote before the debate gave UKIP a clear lead but following an entertaining debate the vote swung the Lib Dems way.
Commenting after the debate Graham Oakes said:
"It was interesting debating against an experienced anti-EU MEP but reassuring that his view did not hold up under scrutiny and our more positive policies were accepted by the majority of people in the room."
"The students accepted that whilst the EU is in need of reform it had a role to play in maintaining peace and prosperity in Europe."
