Troops Let Down By Government And by shops

July 10, 2008 12:00 PM

"This government is failing to support our armed forces and this is a national disgrace, they need our support and the government and local shops can play their part." says Graham Oakes, Lib Dem PPC for Exeter .

"This government has sent our young men & women into two conflicts, the unlawful war in Iraq based on a lie and also into Afghanistan."

"Whether you believe that our troops should be there or not, the government has a duty to ensure they are properly equipped, that they have the best defensive technology and that all aircraft are airworthy."

"However for many of the families at home, anxiously waiting for news from their loved ones a simple letter or text can bring great comfort. At present not all sections of our armed forces are covered by the freepost and with advances in technology a free text/phone service should be available virtually everywhere. The Government could also help our troops morale by allowing a free parcel service."

"I do not support military action in Iraq , but I do believe we must support our troops and give them a fair deal."

"In Exeter a number of shops offer discount to students, why not offer discount to the families of military personnel too. This would send a clear message to our troops that we support and respect them."
