Lib Dem PPC for Exeter Graham Oakes has backed the government in its decision to allow people to pay for drugs and still receive NHS treatment.

Graham Oakes, a Nurse, said "The government, like its Tory predecessors, have attempted to control the NHS drug budget and to maintain the original principles of the Liberal NHS but unfortunately one side effect has been to exclude people from receiving the care they need. People have been being forced to sell their homes to buy life-prolonging drugs and then denied the continuing NHS care they need because they've done so."
"Political dogma has resulted in people being denied help when they most need it - hardly the mark of a civilised society."
" I am pleased that at last caring for people has become the priority for the Minister of Health."
