Electors went to the polls on Thursday 4th June 2009 in the European & Devon County Council elections.
The Conservatives took control of Devon County Council winning 41 of the 62 seats. The Lib Dems won 14, Labour 4, Independents 2 and Greens 1.
In the Devon CC elections (fought using the traditional first-past-the-post method)the Conservatives received 41.9% of the total votes cast and won 66% of the seats.
The Lib Dems drew 29.9% of the votes but ended up with 22% of the seats.
Labour managed just 6.1% of the vote, ending up with 6.5% of the seats.
The Greens received 6.8% of the vote but ended up with 1.6% of the seats.
The Liberal Party (1%) and UKIP (9%) ended up unrepresented on the new authority.
