Graham Oakes, Lib Dem PPC for Exeter and former Chair of Resources on Devon County council has criticised the Conservative administration on the Council.
"The idea of raising the limit that can be deposited at one institution in the present economic climate suggests the council are looking to take a gamble with the reserves. By spreading the deposits we reduce the risks so clearly the Tories are looking to take a punt with the public's money. This is foolhardy in the extreme."
"I am also disappointed that the Tories have chosen to take the decision behind close doors. The principle of the decision is clearly a matter of public interest and should be discussed openly. It's a misuse of the council's rules to discuss this secretly."
