In a letter to the Express and Echo Graham Oakes has challenged his rivals to debate the big issues of the day.
"The General election must be called before June 2010 and recent election results in Exeter show this seat is potentially a three-way marginal. Now that Gordon Brown has finally accepted the challenge to face his rivals I feel the people of Exeter should be given their chance to see the people who would like the honour of representing them in Westminster .
I therefore challenge all of the selected candidates for the Exeter parliamentary seat to a series of six debates, each focusing on a particular area of policy:
1 Health & Social Care
2 Education
3 Economy, taxation and benefits
4 Law & order
5 Environment.
6 Europe
The debates will be held in the evening or weekends as some candidates have work commitments and will be held in a range of venues across the city."
Graham added: "I believe the people of Exeter should get a chance to see us debate our ideas and policies. They should be able to ask us the difficult questions and not have to accept spin and sound bites."
Graham has changed his position on the sharing a platform with the BNP. At the three General Elections he has fought he has refused to share a platform with these extreme right wingers but now he is willing to. "I believe they will not survive the scrutiny of their views and people will see them for what they are."
