Local Lib Dem rejects new nuclear power station
Graham Oakes has rejected developing new nuclear power stations as the solution to climate change.
"The government are wrong to bypass the traditional planning process to try to build new nuclear power stations, including one just up the road at Hinkley Point."
"The nuclear power stations being proposed are unproven and therefore dangerous technology will be very expensive and will take too long to build to impact on climate change."
"We should be building a series of tidal pools in the Severn, rather than a traditional barrage or lagoon, which would generate the same level of electricity with no environmental damage and no lethal radio active waste that will remain dangerous for thousands of years."
"Building a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point puts everyone in the South west at risk, depending on the wind direction and building a new one when we haven't worked out how to de-commission Hinkley A is pure madness."
