Graham Oakes, Liberal Democrat PPC for Exeter has welcomed Conservative Candidate Hannah Foster's decision to publicly state her position on Hunting.
Graham said: "Hannah has been reluctant to give a clear answer to her position on Hunting and on unitary status for Exeter. I am pleased that she has finally clarified her position on hunting and hope that she will now explain her position on local government reorganisation."
All candidates across the South west were approached by the BBC to find out whether they would retain or repeal the fox hunting ban. Graham Oakes stated he would retain it - Hannah Foster said she would repeal it.
Graham added: "Hunting is a barbaric act. How anyone can describe chasing and killing an animal as sport is beyond me. If there was a free vote in the Commons I would vote to retain and strengthen the ban.
"I think Hannah and the Conservatives are wrong to even waste parliamentary time debating this issue. The country faces a massive challenge to reduce the deficit whilst not undermining our fragile economy. We also need to address other challenges including addressing Climate Change, improving performance in our schools and protecting our hospitals. We do not need an MP or government who keep looking back to Thatcher and the 1980's.
