Its been revealed that Labour leaflets claiming that Nick James, the President of the Liberal Democrat Students at Exeter University was going to vote for Ben Bradshaw were deliberately trying to mislead local people.
Nicholas James, President of the Guild of Liberal Democrat Students at Exeter University said: "I have been quoted by the Labour Party as urging Liberal Democrats to vote Labour to stop the Tories winning Exeter. I never stated I was going to vote for Ben Bradshaw but I do believe a Tory government would be a disaster for Britain. The political situation in Britain, including in Exeter, as changed dramatically and it is now clear that the Liberal Democrats can win in Exeter. I urge all Liberal Democrats and Labour supporters to vote for Graham Oakes to ensure we get a Lib Dem MP for Exeter rather than a Tory."
Graham Oakes commented: "It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong and I respect Nick for changing his views. He is typical of many people across the city who now believe that on May 6th the Lib Dems can win."
Local Lib Dem Agent Kevin Mitchell added "Now that Nick James' position has been clarified I do not expect Labour to deliver anymore leaflets claiming he is backing them. To do that would be to be deliberately trying to mislead local electors and that would be totally unacceptable."
