Graham Oakes, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Exeter has reacted to Labour's desperate attempts to hold on to power by calling for people to "vote for hope not fear, that's true intelligent voting."
"Labour are desperate to cling on to power. Peter Hain has called for voters to follow their heads not their hearts, urging Lib Dems to vote tactically for Labour but can't bring himself to urge Labour voters to vote in the same way - that shows his real conviction.
"I'm urging people to vote for hope rather than through fear. Only the Liberal Democrats can reform this corrupt political system, put in the extra resources so desperately needed in our schools, reduce the tax burden on low and middle income tax payers and ensure older people are treated fairly, with dignity and respect.
"By voting Lib Dem on Thursday people will not only be electing a Lib Dem MP for Exeter but also sending a message that their vote stands for reform. No more duck houses, no more flipping, no more fraud. We need to clean out British politics and we can start on Thursday.
"On Thursday people in Exeter can follow the lead of thousands of postal voters who have already voted for the Liberal Democrats. The campaign which started as a three horse race is now in the closing stage and the Conservatives have slipped into 3rd place.
"The boundary changes that took Topsham & St Loyes out of the new constituency made it hard for the Conservatives to win. Their policy on tuition fees and their planned cuts to public services made it near impossible to win here.
"Our campaign has picked up momentum and we know that we did very well in the postal votes and are now well placed to win here. We have taken control of the City Council for the first time ever and the Conservatives are the 3rd party in terms of councillors in the new constituency. People are tired of both Labour and the Conservatives and want real change. They know we can win here and across Britain.
