Emergency council elections

August 12, 2010 12:00 AM

On 9th September 2010, 12 council seats are up for election following the legal ruling made over Exeter unitary status and a by-election in Topsham ward following the resignation of a sitting Conservative Councillor

This is a result of the last Labour government ordering Exeter to change to a Unitary Council. While doing that, they extended some Councillors' terms to avoid having elections for just a single year in office.

One of the first pronouncements of the coalition government was to reverse the unitary decision. A High Court Judge declared that elections are needed.

These are happening on September 9th.

There are special action days every Saturday from now until the beginning of September:

10am at Cllr Vanessa Newcombe's: 1 Thurlow Road, Exeter, EX4 7AA

Call her on 01392 498035 for more information or to collect leaflets or canvassing at other times.

Please help if you can. We run the Council and we want to retain control on September 9th.
