Conservatives taking rural areas for granted - Devon Lib Dems
Devon & Cornwall Lib Dems are hosting an online forum for members & supporters this Friday 27th at 7pm with guest speaker Tim Farron.
Please join if you can for just £5 and email firstname.lastname@example.org for a ticket and more info.
Here's what Tim had to say before our event:
"Cornwall and Devon maybe a long way from Cumbria but we have so much in common: beautiful places, a far from London, facing similar challenges in farming, tourism and hospitality and loss of community as a result of excessive second homeownership.
We are also rural communities that seem to be taken for granted by a Conservative government whose priorities don't seem to include us. The assumption that rural places will just vote Conservative anyway leads to the government being complacent, out of touch and simply not interested in the challenges that we face.
Liberal Democrats care about communities like ours. It's why we exist. The late David Penhaligon has always been my model of what a good Liberal MP should be: in touch with the community, immersed in the community, serving local people and always putting your local area ahead of national or party loyalties.
Liberals have always provided the strongest alternative to the Conservatives in Cornwall and Devon and I am determined that we should win councils and parliamentary seats in the coming years so that England's West should once again be represented by people who put the local community ahead of the party whip."
