Black History Month

Advance notice of 2021 AGM

In view of continuing uncertainties as the winter commences, we have decided, as with last year, to hold our Annual General Meeting as an online event. Hopefully this will be the last year this has to occur as we plan to hold a range of face-to-face events in 2022.

You will receive formal notice of the AGM and how to take part at the end of the month. Date for your computer or smart phone diary -- Thursday 25th November at 7pm.

Campaign Action Day

Cllrs Michael Mitchell and Kevin Mitchell

As you are all aware, campaigning never stops in Exeter as we have local elections every year either for the City Council or the County Council. Thursday 5th May 2022 - keep it free to help out. In 2022, Cllr Kevin Mitchell is up for re-election in the Duryard & St James ward. Labour held their one seat in the ward in 2021 so, as always, this will be a hard fought campaign.

On Saturday 30th October we are holding an "Action Day" in the ward to help support Kevin.

If you can help, contact me or just arrive at 35A Howell Rd at either 10.00 am or 2pm. Other Action Days are planned for 2021 and 2022, across several wards in the City.

Getting to know our members

Besides emails always asking for help or money or both, we plan to meet and talk with as many members and supporters as possible before the end of the year. We want to hear about what you think are the issues in Exeter and how we as Lib Dems can try to make a difference.

In 2022, we will be holding members meetings so you can meet and talk with other Liberal Democrats. So do look out for the email, the letter, the phone call or the pre-arranged knock on the door.

Give us your paper - painless way to raise funds for us locally!

Yes this is one of the ways we raise funds. Instead of putting your newspapers, magazines and junk mail in your green bin, give it to the Liberal Democrats who will call around and collect your paper and will leave a carrier bag for your next collection. The County Council pays us for this out of their recycling credits budget.

About 20% of our members and supporters already take part and we collect about four tonnes a year. Just imagine how much we would collect and earn if all our members took part. We call at your convenience and as frequently as needed. This is an easy way to raise money and do your bit for the environment.
Rod Ruffle at the recycling centre

Rod Ruffle co-ordinates the scheme and collects the paper from you. If you want to join the scheme, please contact Rod via email at rgruffle@yahoo.co.uk or telephone or write to me.

Holding the council to account

Kevin and I, as your two Liberal Democrat City Councillors, continue to try to hold this Labour dominated council to account. With our Green and Independent colleagues in the Progressive Group, we manage in committee and at council to ask questions and seek full answers. We are using the Scrutiny Committee process to initiate debate on key Labour policies to search beyond the 'vision statement' and glossy brochures to find out what is really happening. If there are any council related issues impacting upon your life please do contact the Lib Dem team for help or assistance.

If you are passionate about your local community why not consider standing for election, so you can try to make a difference..
