Exeter City Council results update
Liberal Democrats had another tough set of local elections on 5 May, fought within new larger ward boundaries. We worked hard in more areas than before and fielded a strong slate of candidates in 19 of the 39 seats on offer.
Winning just under 10% of the votes cast in the city, we secured just 2.6% of the seats - we are delighted to see Kevin Mitchell back on the Council representing St James & Duryard ward.
Many thanks to our committed activists supporting Kevin and helping to secure strong second places in St Thomas and St Davids, with special mention to Stella Brock who narrowly missed out after many years of faithful service to the community.
Thank you to all those who have voted for us and helped to keep the liberal flame alive in Exeter.
The Labour party with it's professional staff managed to turn under half of the votes cast in the city into a huge majority, taking 30 of the 39 seats. Congratulations to all the individual Councillors elected - we hope they do the right thing with only a depleted opposition to challenge them for now. We hope their spending plans don't burden Exeter with penal debt repayments in the future. However the people have chosen, so we shall see!
