Speak up to save YOUR services

Exeter Liberal Democrats have been fighting a positive campaign to prioritise our local services, like community patrol and street sweeping. Labour's priority for Exeter is a £20 million swimming pool. They are asking residents what sacrifices YOU will make in order to fund this luxury facility. A further £10 million will be borrowed (in addition to the current debt of £35 million) to deliver this project.

Things they are consulting on are:

October 9th launched Parks and Public Places. The responses received could have a direct effect on how our city's parks are maintained and how equipment and leisure activities in play areas are delivered.

October 16th launched Helping People. This could change the way you make payments to ECC and access the civic centre amongst other services.

October 23rd launched the Cultural City. This might include closing some facilities, reducing provision of others and working more closely with partners.

Oct 30th will launch the Safe City. This will concentrate on when and where you feel safe in the city and how the council should spend available budgets on making Exeter a safer city in which to live work and visit.

Cllr Stella Brock commented "I know many people will welcome a new swimming pool, but should it be at the cost of cutting back on services, such as street cleaning, play areas, refuse and litter enforcement and the introduction of a new range of charges? Residents know what our priorities are; Working together in partnership to deliver a safe and clean community we can all be proud of to call our home." She continued "We are asking people to support us and work together to stop our city going backwards!"

The survey/consultation papers can be accessed via the council's web site and are available in the Civic Centre or Tourist Information Centre.

Lots of Councils are getting less money from the government, but not Exeter. Actual cash from the government over 4 years from 2011 has been £9.77m, £9.81m, £10.23m & £11.68m.

Since 2011 the reserves have risen by £6.14m whilst services have been cut. Choices have to be made, there is much to decide, but please respond to the consultation, it could make a difference to services supplied by Exeter City Council and to the future development of our City.
