The clock change with lighter and warmer evenings has led to an acceleration in Lib Dem activity for the 2017 local elections.

Teams and individuals are going on the doorstep talking to local residents and delivering local news and Liberal Democrat views to an audience in a way the mainstream media does not.

There has been a warm welcome from residents who appreciate the long tradition of Lib Dems locally of campaigning in the community and helping residents to access the services that sometimes get lost behind the bureaucracy. Many appreciate the sensible financial management of the public purse and the emphasis on clean and safe streets, not expensive city centre vanity projects. The Lib Dem campaign to fight for Devon's fair share of education funding has struck a chord with many.

Many people have also been impressed by the small group of Lib Dem MPs, led by Tim Farron, who are providing a more effective opposition to the government than the divided Labour party under Jeremy Corbyn. As we leave the EU, Liberal Democrats will continue to fight to keep full access to the Single Market and retain as many of the freedoms and protections that we enjoy and have come to expect. We remain committed to projecting Britain home and abroad as a confident, tolerant and open society that treats everyone equally.

Those who share this vision should join at http://www.libdems.org.uk/join . Membership has more than doubled to 87,000 nationally as people get behind our philosophy and leadership.

Help the Lib Dems gain votes, seats and influence this May, strengthen the voice of the community in the local Councils and send a message to the government about what sort of society we want to live in.

Election activities involve meeting people and private activities - out and about or at home. Call or text Adrian on 07855 979917 or e-mail: adrian@exeterlibdems.org.uk to find out ways you can help.
