Exeter Liberal Democrats campaign in Brecon and Radnorshire By-election

22 Jul 2019

Exeter Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Tom Deakin was joined by Lib Dem City Councillors campaigning for the by-election in Brecon and Radnorshire.

Speaking from the campaign HQ in Brecon, Tom said:

"It's great to be in Brecon supporting our brilliant candidate Jane Dodds in what is set to be an incredibly important by-election. At a time when a no-deal Brexit is a serious risk to our economy, this by-election has the opportunity to change the direction of Brexit and puts the new Prime Minister under real pressure, a week into office, to take no-deal off the table."

According to the latest polling evidence, the Liberal Democrats are set to gain the Brecon and Radnorshire seat from the Conservatives and further reduce the Tory control of Parliament, weakening the position of whoever walks into Number 10 this week.

Cllr Kevin Mitchell (Liberal Democrat), who is leader of the Progressive Group on Exeter City Council said:

"The Green Party and Plaid Cymru have both stood aside in favour of the Liberal Democrats in this election. This is a brilliant example of how Remain-supporting parties can work together and ensure the voices of those who wish to Stop Brexit are heard loudly and clearly. The Liberal Democrats have proven ourselves to be the true home of Remain voters and I hope the opinion polls are proved right and that the Liberal Democrats gain the seat on 1st August."
