Labour mismanagement squanders green investment in Exeter
Exeter Labour have now refused £6m investment in heat pumps for Riverside and RAMM.
Exeter Lib Dems want to call time on plans by the ruling Labour group to build a temporary car park on the site of the former bus station in the city centre and want to encourage residents to have their say on what they would like to see instead.
Cllr Michael Mitchell – Progressive Group Co-Leader and Lib Dem Cllr for Duryard & St James said: “We have enough parking in the city centre, the council have committed to a target of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2030, adding yet another car park will not help achieve that target.
“Labour’s financial failures were widely known across the city, putting in a car park with the new higher tariffs is an outrageous way to make residents pay for their financial mismanagement.”
Cllr Adrian Fullam for St Thomas said "This is a positive opportunity to deliver some creative community use for the space given a long-term decision could be some time away."
Cllr Tammy Palmer for Duryard & St James commented that “Residents deserve to have their say on the future of this site. So many people we have spoken to are appalled at the idea of a car park being placed here. The community here is fantastic and deserve a space that really works for them.”
Residents are invited to participate in an online consultation on the council’s website: news.exeter.gov.uk/consultation-launched-on-proposed-changes-to-car-parking-in-exeter
Residents can also contact their councillors to provide feedback to ensure their voice is heard on this important issue.
