Exeter Lib Dems Celebrate Fantastic Election Results
Liberal Democrats GAIN St Thomas from Labour and hold Duryard & St James
So proud of my Progressive Group colleagues yesterday evening at the Exeter City Council annual council meeting. Empassioned speeches, holding the ruling group to account, constructive fully costed amendments to the budget and two successful motions. We have certainly come a long way in the last 4 years
Our alternative budget amendments would have meant investment in parks and open spaces, the reopening of a city centre public toilet, new lockable bicycle shelters and cycle charging points in car parks, protecting the grants budget and the replacement of Mallison Bridge.
Excellent speeches from my Green Progressive Group co-leader Cllr. Diana Moore and colleagues Cllr. Amy Sparling and Cllr. Carol Bennet. Sadly Labour and the Conservatives teamed up to oppose the proposals but we will always be prepared to discuss them further with the ruling group!
Outstanding motion to protect and enhance our River Exe. An empassioned speech from Cllr. Tess Read and seconded by Cllr. Catherine Rees Pleased to report it got cross-party support. We need to work together to ensure the Exe is protected and other agencies are held to account.
My Lib Dem ward colleague Cllr Michael Mitchell continued his long running campaign to highlight and reform our Council Tax exemptions system and gave a detailed speech to his motion which again I am pleased to say got cross-party support.
Overall, a great team effort and together my Progressive Group colleagues, Cllr. Diana Moore, Cllr. Amy Sparling, Cllr. Catherine Rees, Cllr. Carol Bennett, Cllr. Tess Read, Cllr Jemima Moore and Cllr Michael Mitchell, we will continue to provide the effective opposition Exeter City Council needs.
