“Autumn Statement fails our NHS”, says Exeter Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate
Over 12% of Devon's population are on an NHS waiting list. We deserve better.
It is reported the Labour leader opposes proportional representation despite the fact it would transform historic disillusionment in our politics, by making votes matter. He has abandoned any notion of principles the Labour Party had, opting for self-interest at the expense of the country.
At a local level, the Progressive Group on Exeter City Council (including Lib Dem, Green Party, and Independent cllrs) proposed an indicative fair votes motion in 2020 - rejected by Labour who restricted their cllrs from even debating it.
We tried again in 2022, finally backed by Lab EXCEPT they voted en bloc for it to exclude local elections. How is this democratic?
Unlike Progressive Group cllrs, Exeter Labour cllrs are beholden to their leader's whip – making candidate pledges meaningless.
Labour clearly cannot be trusted to stand up for proportional representation.
Lib Dem policy is major electoral reform, including Single Transferrable Vote at every level, and is a red line for us in any national deal - voting Lib Dem is the best way to hold Labour to account.
